Although I believe in auditing your strengths and weaknesses more often than once a year, I think there is something to be said about an annual macro assessment.
Going into the year 2020, I love the idea of using the symbolism which comes from that particular number. I want to challenge you, as this year winds down, to use the 20/20 vision analogy to give yourself a checkup regarding your strengths and, more importantly, your weaknesses.
We need to remember that what we don’t focus on and pay attention to tends to get worse – Your money, your diet, your physical and mental health, your relationships, your professional life, etc.
So, take some time to do a deep dive into what areas have been in your blind spot. What have you not been seeing and/or paying attention to? A lot of times we shy away from confronting these areas. It can be painful to see and to admit to having weaknesses.
It is time to get uncomfortable and press into the fact that you do have weaknesses. Everyone does. How you address them and how often you address them is what sets you apart and can make you great.
Here’s how you can identify your blind spot and obtain 20/20 vision for 2020:
Set aside a dedicated, uninterrupted time to do this. It shouldn’t take more than a couple of hours.
Separate the area of your life into 4 parts:
– Spiritual and Mental
– Physical (diet and exercise)
– Financial and Professional
For each section write down the good, the bad, and the ugly. Be brutally honest with yourself. This is the only way to improve.
Now is the time to figure out a plan of attack to improve your weak areas. First write down a commitment statement for each one. Something like this “I acknowledge that I am weak in this area. I am committed to doing whatever it takes to improve and be great in this area.”
This commitment being written down has a magical effect. Once you decide and commit to something, all of your thoughts, words, and actions start going in the direction of that commitment. You also will notice that you will start to eliminate everything in your life that gets in your way of your commitments.
Write down 2 to 4 actions you are going to take to improve each weakness. Be very clear and specific. Also write down what you are doing to avoid or eliminate from your life. Keep this where you can see it every day. I will even advise rewriting them down every day, revising it as you improve or notice other weaknesses.
Once you do this, send me a message.
I want to hear about it as your honorary accountability coach. I am here for you!
I promise you that this has the ability to change your life. No matter what stage or state that your life is in. This works for anyone.
Here’s to success and growth in 2020!!
